Garage door opener repair in Alameda
Openers fail in a handful of predictable ways, and only some of them need a new unit. We test the chain first: remote, wall button, safety sensors, logic board, then the motor and gears. A lot of the time the fix is one part rather than a new machine, and we'll tell you when that's the case.
From $150 typical range $150 to $920

That's almost always a stripped drive gear. The nylon gear inside the head unit wears out long before the motor does. On most makes it's a replaceable part, and a gear kit costs a fraction of a new opener.
Nothing happens at all
Check the simple things first. The unit is unplugged, the breaker tripped, or the wall control wire has worked loose. If the power is fine, the logic board may have failed. Salt air is hard on electronics, and garages near the shoreline get plenty of it.
When replacement actually makes sense
Openers built before 1993 came without photo eyes at the floor, the sensors that stop the door on anything in its path. Federal rules have required that protection since. If yours predates it, a new unit buys you a real safety improvement. Replacement also makes sense when the board and the gearbox have both gone, because the parts start to approach the price of a new machine. And a chain drive on a garage under a bedroom is worth swapping for a belt drive for the quiet alone.
What we fit
Belt drive for quiet, chain drive for value, direct drive where the ceiling is tight. We set the travel limits and force settings properly on every install. That's the step that gets skipped, and it's why a door starts reversing for no obvious reason a month later.

Questions we get asked
- Repair or replace?
- Repair, if it's a gear, a sensor, a remote or a wall control. Replace if the unit predates 1993 and has no photo eyes, or if it needs both a board and a gearbox. We'll tell you which one you're looking at before you commit to anything.
- What does an opener cost installed?
- From $460, fitted and set up. Repairs start at $150. You get the quote before the work.
- My remote stopped working. Is that the opener?
- Usually not. It's most often a flat battery or a lost pairing, and reprogramming takes a few minutes. We'd rather do that than sell you a machine you don't need.
